The 2026 edition of Bike to UNI kicks off: from 16/09 until 15/12/2026

From 16 September – with the launch of the European Mobility Week – until 15 December 2026, the green challenge returns after its first experimental phase in 2025. The initiative is open to students and staff of Politecnico di Milano and the University of Bergamo.

Bike to UNI is the joint challenge created within the framework of the PNRR project MOST – National Centre for Sustainable Mobility, promoted by Politecnico di Milano and the University of Bergamo, the project leader, in collaboration with Wecity.

Would you like to take part in the challenge? Travel by bike, scooter or on foot on your commute between home and university, and record your journeys, including those made during your free time.
The Regulations provide all the useful information on how to participate and the prizes available.

To reach Politecnico di Milano, 77 routes to and from the University’s Milan campuses are available, identified by expert cyclists. For each destination, where possible, three types of route have been identified: the fastest/most direct route; the route with the least vehicle traffic; and the route making the greatest use of cycle lanes.

What are the main steps of the BIKE to UNI challenge?
1. Download the Wecity app for iOS or Android;
2. Register with your institutional email address and create your profile;
3. Join the Bike to UNI 2026 challenges by entering the following codes:
BTUNI26 for the weekly challenge (Monday–Friday)
BTUNI26TL for the free-time challenge;
4. Press START when you set off and STOP when you arrive, both for your home-university commutes from Monday to Friday and for free-time routes at weekends.

For every kilometre travelled, 1 point will be awarded, while 3 bonus points will be assigned for every completed home-university commute.

What rankings are planned?
1. Individual rankings
Alongside the general ranking, based on the total number of points accumulated from Monday to Friday, there will also be a consistency ranking, which considers the total number of active days, and a free-time ranking, based on the kilometres recorded at weekends throughout the challenge period.

2. Inter-university ranking
PoliMi and UniBG will compete based on per capita kilometres travelled by bike.

3. Internal university rankings
Each university may, at its own discretion, activate dedicated rankings for degree programmes, administrative units, departments, campuses or other organisational categories.

The challenge has just begun: it is time to walk or cycle, climb the rankings and win one of the many prizes.
Please remember that all participants are required to comply with the Codice della Strada during the journeys they record.

Consult the Regulations. Join in and encourage others to take part.
