As part of the Città Studi Campus Sostenibile Project (created to create models that promote quality of life and environmental sustainability through the active contribution of the university community and residents in the neighborhood) and the VENTO Project, Politecnico di Milano has begun a collaboration with Cingomma, a brand produced and distributed by Recrea srl.
Recrea srl is a company of Italian artisans who handcraft high-quality fashion accessories by reusing old and bicycle tires and inner tubes. This is a concrete example of circular economy in action.
Politecnico di Milano, committed to promoting virtuous environmental sustainability practices and in alignment with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out in the UN’s 2030 Agenda, is making some of its spaces available for the implementation of experimental projects focused on the collection, reuse, and recycling of materials.
The relevant UN’s 2030 Agenda goal for this new project is Goal 12 – Responsible Production and Consumption, by placing dedicated containers within the university for the collection of used bicycle inner tubes and tires. The experimental project also aims to contribute to spreading the principles of the circular economy, raising awareness among the Polytechnic community and the public about the increasingly important issue of waste prevention.
Additionally, as part of its merchandising activities to promote a culture of sustainability, the university has launched a new Green Collection. The creations made by Cingomma as part of this initiative, such as some models of belts or keyrings, will also be available in Politecnico’s Official Merchandise catalog.
Where are the containers located?
The containers are placed in several locations across the two Milan campuses of Città Studi and Bovisa at the Politecnico di Milano. In particular, in the Città Studi campus, there are two containers:
- one outside the porter’s lodge of Building 11,
- and the second is next to the Velostation, between Buildings 5 and 9.
In Bovisa, the containers can be found:
- at the porter’s lodge of Building B12 in the La Masa campus,
- at Candiani campus, specifically at the LabAllestimenti in Building B2 and at the Policiclo headquarters in Building B6.
An additional container is available for the DAStU – VENTO Project and the Environmental Sustainability Unit for projects and events dedicated to the circular economy.
