Policiclo Bike Repair workshop

Policiclo is the bike repair workshop at the Politecnico di Milano, managed by volunteer students. It is located at the Bovisa Candiani campus (Building B6) and was inaugurated in 2014.

The Policiclo volunteers offer free assistance with repairs to anyone in need. Around 100-150 people visit Policiclo each year, and the workshop is open to everyone: as part of a third mission perspective, all local residents can take advantage of the provided service, not just only the Politecnico community. Additionally, Policiclo is responsible for the maintenance of the university’s bikes – both muscle-powered and electric – assigned to various departments and administrative structures.

The bike workshop also has a significant cultural and educational value, as it includes brief training sessions to teach individuals how to take care of their bikes. Besides promoting sustainable mobility, Policiclo contributes to the circular economy by reusing parts from old bikes to assemble fully functional ones. The values of the bike workshop align with the UN’s Agenda 2030, specifically referring to Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 12 (Ensure Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns), and 4 (Quality Education).

Policiclo has always collaborated with the Environmental Sustainability Unit and participates in initiatives organized within the “Città Studi Campus Sostenibile” project, with special openings and recreational events. The ES Unit has also donated various materials, both consumable and non-consumable, to the workshop.
