June 3rd – World Bicycle Day: Polimi initiatives for its community
Find recommended cycling routes and the new bikestation
On June 3, World Bicycle Day promotes cycling as a sustainable and healthy mode of transport.
Polimi has enhanced mobility services to enable its community to reach the Campus by soft and active means of mobility.
On this occasion the University makes now available some routes suggested by expert bikers to reach the Milano campuses by bike thanks to the “Bike To Poli” project and will soon open a new bikestation at Leonardo Campus and its first bikestation at the “Marie Curie” residence.
Bike to POLI
University users travelling by bike or scooter can now access the Bike to POLI project, which offers 77 suggested routes (36 to Città Studi – Leonardo Campus and 41 to La Masa and Durando Campus in Milan). These routes, based on input from polytechnic users, span 6 Metropolitan Zones and are available as downloadable .GPX files.
For more information, see the page dedicated to the project: Bike to Poli.
New bikestations are being installed at Campus Leonardo – Città Studi and the “Marie Curie” Residence.
The Campus Leonardo bikestation is being relocated due to energy efficiency work on Building 5. Like other Ateneo bikestations, access is badge-only for active Polimi users. Located on the east side of Building 7, facing Via Ponzio, the bikestation will initially offer 18 racks for bicycles or scooters, that may eventually be doubled (depending on actual use of the infrastructure). This new velostation is also equipped with a bike repair station for little maintenance works. There are also 9 charging points (a total of 18 sockets) for electric bicycles and scooters.
The first velostation at Maria Curie Politecnico’s residence (Piazzale Ferrara, Corvetto area, Milan) is close to completion. The facility, which can be accessed via badge, will have three racks providing 18 spaces and four bows for storing both bicycles and scooters.
More information can be found on the page dedicated to bikestations.
