To promote a more responsible use of water and optimize its management through monitoring actions, the Politecnico is investing in various areas to enhance the value of this increasingly essential resource.
On the one hand, several activities are taking place to monitor thoroughly the water consumption at different scales, to optimize management and to plan interventions for adjusting water consumption control, increasing the resilience of the infrastructure. On the other hand, the University has expanded the availability of public water supply points for the whole Politecnico community (and those passing through its campuses), to counter the use of plastic bottled water and the energy consumption that follows.
To promote its use, Politecnico has recently joined two projects:
- in the 2021/2022 academic year, it participated in the project ‘BeviMI, Acqua del Sindaco e consumi responsabili,’ coordinated by the Italian Committee for the World Water Contract (CICMA), co-financed by the Cariplo Foundation, supported by Coripet, and involving three other Milanese universities.
- as part of the “ASAP! – Sustainable Water at Politecnico” project (made possible by the contribution of the Cariplo Foundation’s ‘Plastic Challenge 2019’ grant), four water dispensers were installed in buildings 11, 14, and 26 at the Città Studi Campus.
In 2024, special faucets, higher in height and suitable for filling water bottles, were installed, with plans for further faucet installations in the upcoming years.
