Work in progress to increase bikes and scooters parking
The University’s current Strategic Sustainability Plan includes, among its goals, the increasing of students and workers share accessing to campuses by bicycle (or scooter).
This goal has been proposed again in the 2024 edition of the Home-Work Commute Plan, as well providing specific actions, some of which have received significant funding.
In particular, it was planned to upgrade and expand (about 800 additional racks) the infrastructure dedicated to bike/bike parking, both through the installation of new racks (covered and uncovered) and the construction of bike stations (equipped with bike repair stations). All University Milan campuses are involved by the works, while the expectation is that the new bike racks could be available by 2025.
(The timeline could extend for the presence of multiple working sites currently underway, some of which are also aimed at pedestrianizing some spaces with the creation of car-free areas).
Parking lots already completed and planned for 2025
To date, the first works have been carried out at the Campus Bovisa La Masa, where 87 raws (174 bike spaces) have been installed at the points where demand has been greatest, and at the Lambruschini campus, where the old infrastructure has been removed and where 112 bike racks and 15 Verona model racks (some of which are covered) are planned to be placed, which will guarantee an additional 100 bike racks likely by next April.
The following installations are also currently planned (expected completion: May 2025):
at Bonardi campus, 19 Verona model racks for a total of 98 bike racks;
at Bovisa Durando campus, for a total of 114 bike racks and 12 Verona model racks for a total of 72 bike racks;
at campus Bassini, 8 Verona model racks for a total of 32 bike racks.
Finally, it should be noted that some racks present at the Bovisa campuses have been relocated to the Off Campus at Cascina Nosedo and to the “Marie Curie” and “Einstein” Residences.
